Arbaeen Pilgrims Arrive Through Safwan Border Crossing After Reopening of Al-Abdali Crossing

The Safwan border crossing in southern Iraq has resumed receiving Arbaeen pilgrims heading to the holy city of Karbala following the reopening of the Al-Abdali border crossing from the Kuwaiti side.

Ghassan Bunyan al-Shuwaili, the district administrator of Safwan in Basra province, announced the start of pilgrim arrivals through the crossing, coinciding with the resumption of passenger movement and commercial activity after the temporary closure of Al-Abdali crossing.

Al-Shuwaili said Safwan border crossing began welcoming pilgrims traveling to participate in the Arbaeen commemoration of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) after Al-Abdali was reopened following a temporary halt caused by recent events and resulting damage.

He added that efforts by Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani, including discussions with the Kuwaiti Interior Minister, contributed to facilitating the movement of pilgrims and restoring the flow of travelers through both crossings after several days of disruption.

The Safwan district administrator confirmed that security, administrative, and service teams at the crossing have mobilized their resources to accelerate entry procedures, organize the movement of arrivals, and ensure smooth passage for pilgrims continuing their journey toward Karbala.
