Evacuation of Lower Kurram Villages Amid Security Operations

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has ordered the evacuation of four villages in the Lower Kurram region following a deadly attack on a relief convoy, Dawn Newspaper reported. The assault, which occurred on February 19, resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, including five security personnel. The convoy was targeted while delivering essential supplies to Parachinar, leading to significant injuries to over 20 people.
In response, helicopter gunships have conducted strikes on suspected militant positions. A high-level meeting has been convened to address the situation, resulting in plans for a search operation against the attackers. The villages of Ochat, Manduri, Dadkamar, and Bagan will be evacuated to safeguard residents. Additionally, authorities are considering placing names of those involved in anti-state activities on Schedule IV of the Anti-Terrorism Act and halting compensation payments to victims of violence temporarily.
The government emphasizes the need for peace committees to fulfill their responsibilities in maintaining order as attacks are still ongoing in the area despite peace accord signed. Many aid trucks have been attacked or looted, according to local reports.
