Lebanon: Israeli violations of ceasefire agreement continue amid rising tensions

Lebanese media reported six new Israeli violations of a ceasefire agreement on Monday, following a deadly attack by Israeli forces on Sunday that killed 24 people in southern Lebanon, Anadolu Agency reported.

An Israeli drone dropped a grenade in the town of Bani Haiyyan, injuring one person, and another drone dropped a bomb, causing injuries to a municipal team working on a road. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed two injuries from the attacks.

In addition to these airstrikes, Israeli forces detained a Lebanese citizen in Wazzani and fired at local residents. Israeli soldiers also targeted Lebanese troops stationed near Meiss El-Jabal, while drones flew over Tyre. There were no reported injuries from these incidents.

The violations occurred just a day after Israeli forces opened fire on displaced civilians attempting to return to their homes in southern Lebanon, resulting in 24 fatalities and 134 injuries.

Tensions have risen since the 60-day deadline for Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, as agreed in a ceasefire that began on November 27, passed without implementation. The U.S. announced on Sunday that Israel and Lebanon agreed to extend the deadline to February 18.

Since the ceasefire began, Lebanese authorities have recorded at least 660 Israeli violations.
The ongoing conflict, which escalated in late September 2023, has led to significant casualties, with over 4,080 people killed and nearly 17,000 injured in Lebanon.
