Sudan Crisis Deepens: RSF Strikes Displaced Camp Amid Army Gains
At least two people were killed and 12 others injured in an attack by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Zamzam camp for displaced individuals in North Darfur, Arab News reported yesterday.
The camp, located south of El-Fasher, was subjected to heavy rocket and artillery fire on Sunday morning. This incident highlights the ongoing violence in Sudan, where a war between the regular army and RSF has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced over 11 million since April 2023.
UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher, after recent visits to Sudan and Chad, emphasized the dire humanitarian crisis, stating that nearly 26 million people face mass starvation. The conflict has led to accusations of war crimes against both factions, including targeting civilians and obstructing aid.
In a military development, the Sudanese army recaptured the town of Um Al-Qura from RSF control, signaling ongoing clashes as the conflict continues to spread across the region. International calls for an end to the violence are growing amid escalating humanitarian needs.
