Minnesota approves construction of new Islamic centre to meet growing community needs

The city council of St. Anthony, Minnesota, has approved the construction of a new Islamic center named “Tebyan”. This decision follows months of discussions regarding the Muslim community’s request to relocate the old Islamic center and establish a new facility to meet their needs.

Plans for the Tebyan Center include a prayer mosque, classrooms for Islamic studies and Quranic education, dedicated spaces for children’s programs, and a hall for social events and gatherings.

Jelani Hussein, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Minnesota, highlighted that the current Islamic center can no longer accommodate the religious and educational needs of St. Anthony’s Muslim community, necessitating the establishment of a new facility.

Hussein noted the community’s dedicated efforts to secure approval for this new center and acknowledged the consistent support of St. Anthony’s Muslim residents.

In related developments, the Islamic Association in Simi Valley, California, submitted plans last month to replace its current mosque with a larger, two-story facility, while the Edison Islamic Center requested permission earlier this year to build a three-story mosque in Edison, complete with classrooms, event halls, and a 40-car parking lot.
