A report attributed to OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has highlighted the growing use of artificial intelligence tools to seek religious information, with Islamic topics reportedly accounting for a significant share of inquiries about faith, particularly those concerning Islamic rulings, Quranic interpretation and Prophetic traditions.

According to figures cited in the circulating report, Islamic subjects account for approximately 45% of weekly religious queries submitted to the platform. Questions about halal and haram rulings and acts of worship reportedly make up around 39% of Islamic inquiries. Other common requests include explanations of Quranic verses and hadiths, as well as information about scholars’ views on contemporary issues.

The report also points to increased interest in Islamic topics during major religious occasions, particularly the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha. During these periods, users reportedly submit more questions about fasting, zakat, Hajj and the rules governing animal sacrifice.

Beyond answering individual questions, the report highlights the potential use of AI in religious education.

The reported trend illustrates how AI tools may expand access to religious learning and make Islamic information more readily available.
