The 16th International Annual Martyrdom Festival has opened at Al-Kut University in Wasit province, Iraq, commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her). The 30-day programme features religious, academic, Quranic and cultural activities involving religious institutions, universities and cultural organizations.

Organized under the patronage of the Imam Hussein Cultural Forum in cooperation with seminaries in Najaf and several holy shrines, the festival includes religious outreach programmes at universities and colleges, a Quranic gathering, and a book exhibition featuring works on Islamic theology, jurisprudence and the heritage of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

Organizers said the event aims to strengthen cooperation between religious seminaries and academic institutions, promote the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), and encourage peaceful coexistence. The festival is part of broader Fatimiyya commemorations taking place across Wasit province.
