Iran Launches Missile Attack on Israel Amid Escalating Tensions in Region
Iran has fired hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel amid escalated tensions between two regional arch-rivals.
The attack started around 8.15 p.m. local time (1645GMT) on Tuesday. Iranian media said at least 400 missiles had been launched so far.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari reported no casualties from the attack, although two individuals sustained light injuries from shrapnel. According to Iranian military, the missiles targeted three military bases in the Tel Aviv area, with claims that 90% of the missiles hit their intended targets. The Israeli military said a “large number” of missiles had been intercepted.
Israeli officials promised consequences for the onslaught.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Tuesday condemned Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel as a significant escalation.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the escalating violence, calling for an immediate ceasefire to halt the growing conflict in the region.
