Fifth of GPs use Al to perform administrative tasks, study finds
A survey published in BMJ Health and Care Informatics reveals that one in five GPs are using AI tools like ChatGPT, Bing AI, and Google’s Gemini in their clinical practice.
Out of the 1,006 GPs surveyed, nearly a third of those who use AI rely on it to write letters and other documentation after appointments, while 28% use it for alternative diagnoses.
Researchers noted that AI tools offer value, especially in reducing administrative tasks and supporting clinical decisions.
However, they raised concerns about the potential risks to patient privacy, as it’s unclear how the tech companies behind generative AI handle sensitive data.
According to medico-legal experts, the use of such tools could inadvertently undermine confidentiality, prompting calls for more transparency and caution in adopting AI within healthcare.
