Iraq: Communications and Media Commission announces major infrastructure upgrades ahead of Holy Arbaeen Pilgrimage
The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC) has announced significant infrastructure upgrades to Iraq’s telecommunications network in preparation for the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage. These measures aim to ensure optimal communication services and network coverage during the mass pilgrimage.
In a statement received by Shia Waves Agency, the CMC reported the deployment of 500 technical teams across various regions of the country to enhance and support communication services.
Additionally, 90 mobile stations (COWs) have been activated, with 22 more added, bringing the total number to 112 mobile stations. Furthermore, 219 fixed towers have been installed specifically for the pilgrimage, increasing the total number of fixed towers to 4,390, along with 27,652 permanent cells.
The CMC also highlighted the development and expansion of 1,803 towers as part of the planned strategy, with an additional 180 towers added. Moreover, 2,538 towers have been equipped with modern technologies to ensure better coverage and continuous connectivity for pilgrims, including the use of the 2600 MHz band in 429 towers.
To enhance frequency spectrum monitoring, the commission announced the deployment of five vehicles equipped with advanced technologies, supported by 13 specialized teams to monitor and ensure the stability of wireless signals during the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
These measures are part of a comprehensive plan to provide the best possible communication services during the upcoming pilgrimage, which will see millions of pilgrims from both inside and outside Iraq.
