Javelin star Arshad Nadeem puts end to Pakistan’s 40-year wait for Olympic gold

In a historic moment for Pakistan, javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem clinched gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking the country’s first Olympic gold medal in 40 years, Dawn Newspaper reported yesterday.

Nadeem set a new Olympic record with a remarkable throw of 92.97 meters, surpassing the previous record of 90.57 meters held since the 2008 Beijing Games. He overcame a shaky start, initially recording a no-throw, before dominating the competition.

Reigning champion Neeraj Chopra from India took silver with an 89.45-meter throw, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured bronze with 88.54 meters.

He is said to have chanted “Ya Ali” before his historic gold-winner throw.
