72 Detained in Turkey’s Counterterrorism Operations Against ISIS
Turkish authorities have detained 72 individuals suspected of links to the ISIS during operations across 13 provinces, local sources mentioned citing Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
The coordinated operations, dubbed “GÜRZ-1,” involved intelligence and counterterrorism units targeting major cities like Istanbul and Ankara.
Minister Yerlikaya reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, emphasizing the goal of neutralizing threats.
Authorities also confiscated substantial amounts of foreign and Turkish currency, along with various digital materials.
Turkey has intensified its crackdown on ISIS affiliates in recent years, with notable arrests including 12 ISIL-K members in Istanbul last July. Since ISIS was designated a terrorist organization in 2013, it has orchestrated numerous attacks in Turkey, resulting in significant casualties. The group remains a global threat, recently claiming responsibility for a deadly attack in Moscow that left 137 dead.
