At least 15 dead after gunmen attack village in northeast DRC
Militia gunmen have raided the village of Galay in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Ituri province, killing at least 15 civilians, TRTWorld reported yesterday.
Innocent Matukadala, an administrative official, reported that the death toll could rise as many people jumped into the Ituri river to escape.
An emergency services official said 16 bodies were found in the village square, including seven women, one of whom was pregnant.
The attacks have been attributed to the Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) armed group, accused of gold mining in the region.
