Mourning ceremonies commemorating the martyrdom of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), the daughter of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), have been held in Nigeria, Myanmar and the holy city of Karbala, reflecting continued efforts by Shia communities and religious institutions to preserve Fatimiyya traditions and teachings.

In Nigeria, Salman al-Muhammadi School, affiliated with the African Studies Center of the Abbasid Holy Shrine’s Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, organized a mourning gathering to commemorate the occasion. The event formed part of the center’s religious and cultural programs aimed at introducing the teachings and legacy of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) to African communities.

In Myanmar, Shia Muslims and followers of the Ahlul Bayt have also gathered for Fatimiyya mourning ceremonies in various areas, with men and women participating in commemorations honoring Lady Fatima’s life, status in Islam and legacy of faith, patience and sacrifice. The gatherings also provide opportunities for families and younger generations to maintain religious traditions and strengthen community ties.

Meanwhile, in Karbala, the Umm al-Banin Hussainiya held its traditional mourning ceremony in remembrance of Lady Fatima al-Zahra. The gathering was attended by social figures and clerics, with Hujjat al-Islam Sheikh Abbas al-Nasiri delivering a speech on her life, standing and place in Islamic history, as well as the suffering of the Prophet’s household.

The ceremonies highlight the observance of Fatimiyya commemorations across different communities, combining religious remembrance, education and the preservation of the heritage associated with the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them).
