The World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Monday of the worsening health crisis in Yemen, where 17 million people are suffering acutely from a lack of medical care amid the spread of diseases.
The organization noted that half of this number is children, reflecting an extremely dire situation in the poverty-stricken country.
Arturo Pesigan, the WHO representative in Yemen, stated in a press release: “Nine years of war have led to a significant deterioration in healthcare services and the destruction of infrastructure, increasing the urgent need for humanitarian and medical assistance day by day for millions.”
He emphasized that the decrease in international support makes Yemeni communities vulnerable to further difficulties, threatening to impact the future of millions of people in the country.
Yemen is witnessing catastrophic humanitarian conditions at all levels due to the arbitrary blockade imposed on the country by the Saudi-led coalition.
The war has resulted in the death and injury of more than 10,200 children, with the actual numbers likely much higher, according to UNICEF’s latest statistics.
