The Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities announced plans to establish two new museums in the capital, Baghdad, one dedicated to antiquities and the other to Islamic properties, in cooperation with the UNESCO.
Dr. Abbas Abdul Mendil, the assistant director of the museums department, stated that the ministry has future plans to establish a new museum with a large area in collaboration with the UNESCO.
Two sites have been selected for the new museum, one at Al-Muthanna Airport, with the other location to be revealed soon.
Abdul Mendil indicated that an announcement about this project is imminent, along with the establishment of another Islamic museum in Baghdad, in addition to setting up more museums in the provinces.
The latest updates on archaeological surveys in Iraq revealed around 18,000 archaeological sites, some of which have not been announced yet. Excavations are ongoing to uncover more sites.
