Muslims commemorated on the 23rd of Safar the anniversary of the passing of Lady Fatimah bint Asad (may Allah’s mercy be upon her), the mother of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), whose life was closely connected to the biography of Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and the early history of Islam.

Religious gatherings were held in several cities, where speakers highlighted the distinguished status of Lady Fatimah bint Asad, known for her faith, devotion and sacrifices. She stood alongside her husband Abu Talib (may Allah’s mercy be upon him) in supporting the Prophet and provided him with care and protection, with her home serving as a place of refuge for him during his early years.

Historians state that Fatimah bint Asad was the mother of several notable figures, including Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and Ja‘far al-Tayyar. According to Islamic historical accounts, she and Abu Talib believed in the Prophet’s mission and supported him during the most difficult stages of his call, while concealing their faith in order to protect and assist him.

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) is reported to have said about her: “She was my mother after my mother,” reflecting her care and special place in his heart. Sources also mention that the Prophet was deeply saddened by her passing, personally participating in her preparation for burial and funeral rites as a sign of her great status and virtue.
