Rare Quranic manuscript dating back to 20 years after Holy Prophet’s martyrdom to be displayed at European exhibition
The European Fine Arts Exhibition in the Netherlands intends to sell a rare Quranic manuscript for one million euros. The manuscript is a page from the Holy Quran in Hijazi script dating back to the first Islamic century. The manuscript will be exhibited in the city of Maastricht, Netherlands.
The European Fine Arts Exhibition has extended a public invitation to receive visitors from March 9 to March 14, with plans to put this Quranic manuscript for sale for one million euros (1.08 million US dollars).
According to reports, the manuscript consists of a single page from a Quran in Hijazi script dating back to 20 years after the passing of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon and his family. The pages of the Holy Quran are made of leather and were kept by a British man.
Only four Hijazi Qurans have been found so far, preserved in the National Library of France, the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg, the third copy in the Vatican Library, and the fourth in the British capital London.
The Quran manuscript at the University of Birmingham contains two pages from the Quran, discovered at the University of Birmingham; it was estimated to be around 1370 years old and concluded that the manuscript was written during the years 568-645 AD.
The period of Prophet Muhammad’s prophethood was between the years 610-632 AD, meaning that the manuscript was written by someone who lived during the time of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family) and knew him.
There is also the Sana’a manuscript consisting of 38 pages in the Dar Al-Makhtutat Library in Yemen, and other individual pages from the Holy Quran are preserved in European and private libraries.
