More than 13M pilgrims commemorate martyrdom anniversary of Imam Musa Al-Kadhim
The Secretariat-General of Al-Kadhimiya Holy Shrine has confirmed that the number of pilgrims visiting Imam Musa Kadhim, peace be upon him, on his martyrdom anniversary this year has exceeded 13 million people.
Saad Al-Hijjya , Deputy Secretary-General of Al-Kadhimiya Holy Shrine and Head of the Million-Person Committee, said that “the data related to the pilgrimage is very large, with the number of pilgrims present in all the streets of Baghdad and heading towards the Holy Kadhimiya.”
Al-Hijjya pointed out that “this year the holy shrine has many large and spacious courtyards, including the courtyard of Al-Hassanayn, the courtyard of Amir al-Mu’minin, the courtyard of Al-Askariyyin, the courtyard of Sahib al-Zaman, the courtyard of Imam al-Sadiq, the courtyard of Imam al-Sajjad, and the courtyard of Imam al-Ridha (AS), in addition to the old courtyard located in Bab al-Murad and the courtyard of Quraysh.”
He added that “these courtyards, being large and spacious, facilitated the large numbers of pilgrims entering into the Holy Shrine,” explaining that “today we see a movement of pilgrims on a 360-degree path in these courtyards and there are no closures.”
The Rajab pilgrimage is a time for Shia Muslims to commemorate the life and legacy of Imam Musa Kadhim, peace be upon him, who was the seventh of the Twelve Imams.
Imam Kadhim, peace be upon him, was known for his piety, wisdom, and compassion. He was also a vocal critic of the Abbasid caliphs, who ruled Iraq at the time.
