UNICEF to set up thousands of educational classes in Afghanistan

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will soon establish approximately a thousand educational classes in Afghanistan, Khaama Press reported.

According to the article, the initiative, revealed on Wednesday, January 17th, aims to provide learning opportunities for around 140,000 children in Afghanistan. According to the organization, these educational classes will create a space for learning, inspiration, and building a brighter future.

UNICEF has also stated that it plans to create 950 educational classes, funded by South Korea, in Afghanistan. This announcement comes at a time when, following the takeover of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, girls beyond the sixth grade are not allowed to continue their education.

Taliban-imposed restrictions have resulted in over one million girls being denied access to schools and education in Afghanistan. Additionally, thousands of women and girls are being denied the opportunity to pursue higher education, while approximately 100,000 female school teachers have been deprived of their livelihoods. These limitations have had a severe impact on the educational opportunities and rights of Afghan women and girls.

Recently, the Ministry of Education of the Taliban also announced a change in the education curriculum from grades one to six, but as for reopening higher-grade schools for girls, no new decision has been made yet.

UNICEF is establishing these educational classes for children in Afghanistan, while the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) had previously declared that, three months after an earthquake devastated western Afghanistan, approximately 100,000 children in the country are in dire need of significant support.
