Islamic Center of Detroit Expands Mental Health Services for Community
In 2023, the Islamic Center of Detroit (ICD) in Dearborn launched My Mental Wellness, a nonprofit clinic aimed at addressing mental health needs in the Arab and Muslim American communities, according to an article published by Planet Detroit yesterday.
The clinic offers a range of services, including counseling, ESL classes, and immigration assistance, responding to the growing demand for mental health support, particularly since 9/11.
My Mental Wellness serves approximately 60 clients each month, with sessions available in both Arabic and English. The facility has expanded its staff to ensure timely care, recognizing that many clients reach out during crises. Recent initiatives include therapy groups for high school girls and workshops for parents, reflecting a shift in community attitudes towards mental health.
Looking forward, the clinic plans to incorporate Medicare and Medicaid billing while continuing to provide free services. The ICD aims to be a vital resource, promoting mental wellness and fostering a supportive environment for all community members.
