Toronto-based Shia organization stresses importance of security awareness, support to official efforts
The Twelver Shia Islamic Organization in Toronto, Canada, said that Muslims from Shia communities in the country are more responsive to security threats and terrorism that may be faced by members of Canadian society in general.
In a statement to Shia Waves Agency, the organization explained that “spreading security awareness and education about it, is one of the tasks of Shia religious and cultural centers, where it is keen to cooperate with government agencies in the matter of providing security for the community.”
It continued that “as an organization, it takes all security threats seriously and has top priority for it; in order for the safety and protection of our community members to remain more secure.”
The organization pointed out that “police departments, whether in Toronto or other cities, are constantly conducting security campaigns to search for any potential threats, and this requires a community culture and cooperation with government efforts to support them and provide any information that can help them identify dangers and address them quickly.”
The organization reiterated that “members of the Shia community, based on their religious teachings emanating from the culture and thought of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, are keen to create a safe atmosphere and participate actively in enhancing security in their countries.”
