West London Islamic centre broken into, set on fire, severely damaged in heart-breaking attack
Al-Falah institute, an Islamic centre in Hayes, West London, was broken into and set on fire last week.
The cultural-religious hub for Muslim women was targeted by vandals, who ransacked the center, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Trustee and chairperson of the center, Mariam Tariq, said to MyLondon the alleged attack has caused anxiety amongst the Muslim community in the area.
Al-Falah institute started with trustee Mariam Tariq who began teaching Islamic classes 20-years-ago at home.
It has served as a place for prayer, learning, and community gatherings for the last 12 years.
A spokesperson for the centre who is raising funds for the damage says the attack could have been an Islamophobic or a hate crime.
