Pilgrims from Salman District Begin Arbaeen Journey to Karbala Despite Harsh Desert Conditions

Pilgrims from Salman District in Iraq’s Muthanna Governorate have begun their walking journey toward the holy city of Karbala to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), overcoming extreme heat and the absence of Hussaini service stations along much of their route.

Salman District, located in Samawah city within Muthanna Governorate, lies approximately 170 kilometers from the governorate’s center and is situated near Iraq’s border with Saudi Arabia.

Videos documenting the journey showed groups of pilgrims covering dozens of kilometers on foot as they traveled from the remote district to join the millions of visitors heading toward Karbala, the city of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

The footage highlighted the challenging conditions faced by the pilgrims, with the vast desert route lacking Hussaini service tents, shaded areas, greenery, or water sources. Despite these difficulties and the intense summer temperatures, the pilgrims continued their march while carrying mourning flags and expressing their devotion to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

The pilgrims are continuing their journey over several days, carrying only limited supplies while relying on their determination and commitment to complete the walk. Their procession reflects the spirit of sacrifice, devotion, and perseverance associated with the Arbaeen pilgrimage, as they reaffirm their dedication to the values and message of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
