Strikes Near Bushehr Nuclear Plant Raise Fears of Regional Disaster
—————————————
Recent strikes near Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant have heightened international concern over the risk of a potential nuclear incident, as fighting between United States, Israel and Iran intensifies.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a projectile struck near the facility on April 4, killing at least one person and damaging a nearby building, though no increase in radiation levels has been detected.

The incident is part of a series of reported strikes near the plant since the conflict escalated, raising alarm over the safety of nuclear infrastructure in active war zones.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed “deep concern,” stressing that attacks on or near nuclear facilities must be avoided due to the danger of a serious nuclear accident.

Iran has warned of broader consequences. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a letter to the United Nations that continued strikes pose a “serious risk of radioactive contamination” with potential regional impact.

Global health officials have echoed those concerns. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that any attack on such facilities could trigger a nuclear accident with consequences affecting “generations.”

Despite the escalating danger, officials confirm that the plant’s main reactor remains intact and operational, and no radiation leak has been reported so far.
