IAEA Warns of Potential Radiation Risk After Strike Near Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Plant
——————————–
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, has expressed concern over a possible “radiological incident” following recent military strikes near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
According to remarks reported by Reuters, Grossi warned that any damage to the facility could trigger a major radiological incident with consequences extending across parts of Iran and potentially beyond its borders.
The agency reiterated its call for maximum restraint, after Iran informed it that another projectile had struck the vicinity of the plant earlier this week. Iranian authorities said the attack caused no damage to the nuclear facility itself and no injuries among staff, adding that operations remain normal.
Separately, Russia’s state news agency reported that Rosatom has evacuated additional personnel from the Bushehr site, according to its head Alexey Likhachev, amid rising security concerns.
The developments have heightened international attention on the safety of nuclear facilities in conflict zones, with the IAEA stressing the serious risks posed by any military activity near such sites.
