UK-Based Muslim Groups Support Sri Lanka’s Post-Disaster Recovery

Muslim charitable organisations based in the United Kingdom have announced a collective donation of £25,000 to support reconstruction and recovery efforts in Sri Lanka following severe natural disasters. The funding comes after storms, floods, and landslides caused widespread damage across several regions of the island.

Organisers said the initiative reflects the solidarity of the Sri Lankan Muslim diaspora in Britain with affected communities at home. They added that total funds raised through broader donation campaigns have exceeded £250,000, aimed at providing relief assistance and supporting longer-term recovery needs for those impacted by the disasters.

Relief efforts have involved cooperation across religious and ethnic lines, with local organisations and volunteers in Sri Lanka working together to deliver emergency aid, take part in clean-up operations, and assist with rehabilitation projects. Participants said the collaborative approach helped strengthen social cohesion and promote a shared humanitarian response.

The organisations also confirmed their support for community-led fundraising initiatives designed to widen public participation in rebuilding projects. They said sustained engagement would be essential to accelerate recovery and ensure long-term impact, stressing that humanitarian assistance transcends borders and remains vital in responding to natural disasters.
