Suicide Blast in Islamabad Kills 12 as Pakistan Faces Surge in Militancy
…………..
At least 12 people were killed and 27 injured in a suicide bombing outside a district court in Islamabad on Tuesday, in an attack claimed by the Pakistan Taliban (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, TTP), The Guardian reported. The explosion occurred around 12:30 p.m. near the court complex, a busy area usually crowded with lawyers and litigants. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the bomber attempted to enter the court premises but detonated the explosives after failing to do so, targeting a nearby police vehicle.
The TTP said it carried out the attack against “judges, lawyers and officials enforcing un-Islamic laws,” and vowed to continue violence until Islamic rule was implemented. The assault marks one of the most serious attacks in Islamabad in recent years and comes amid a sharp rise in militant activity nationwide.
Authorities say the group has launched more than 600 attacks across Pakistan this year, mainly in the north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region bordering Afghanistan. Islamabad accuses the Afghan Taliban of sheltering and supporting TTP fighters, a claim Kabul denies. Recent border clashes between the two sides have left dozens dead, and ongoing ceasefire talks have produced little progress.
Pakistan is also battling a renewed separatist insurgency in Balochistan, where militants have staged numerous attacks, including a train hijacking earlier this year. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif called the latest bombing a “wake-up call,” warning that Pakistan was in a “state of war” against growing militant threats on multiple fronts.
