Trump Announces 30% Tariff on Iraqi Imports Starting August 2025
……………..

US President Donald Trump has notified Iraq that a 30% tariff will be imposed on all Iraqi goods entering the United States beginning August 1, 2025. In a letter to Iraq’s prime minister, Trump said the measure aims to address what he described as an unequal trade relationship that threatens the US economy and national security.

Trump stated the new tariff could change based on future relations with Iraq and warned that any retaliatory tariffs by Iraq would lead to an equivalent increase in US tariffs. He noted that companies producing goods within the US would not be subject to the new tariff and promised to facilitate approvals for businesses willing to relocate manufacturing stateside.

The US president urged Iraq to open its markets to American businesses and remove trade barriers, suggesting that doing so might lead to an adjustment of the tariff decision.
Trump has repeatedly pledged to tackle trade deficits as part of his “America First” policy, arguing that foreign competition has harmed American industries.

He recently called the introduction of tariffs on multiple countries “Liberation Day,” claiming they would help revive US manufacturing and protect jobs by making imported goods less competitive and generating additional revenue.
