Imam fatally stabbed Inside Mosque in Pakistan after beating child student

In Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, an imam was fatally stabbed inside a mosque following an alleged assault on a child student, Khaama Press reported. The incident took place on July 8 in Mardan district, where the imam, originally from the Bajaur tribal region, was teaching religious classes and leading prayers.
According to eyewitnesses, the imam struck a young madrasa student during class. The child informed his elder brother about the beating, prompting the brother to confront the imam at the mosque. Armed with a knife, the brother attacked the cleric, stabbing him multiple times, resulting in the imam’s death at the scene. The suspect reportedly fled afterward.
This tragic event has ignited concern within the local community over increasing reports of child abuse in religious schools across Pakistan. Parents and human rights groups have expressed alarm about the safety of children in madrasas, where corporal punishment remains common.
Activists have long called for stricter oversight and reforms in religious education to prevent abuse. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, while community leaders urge justice and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
