Heavy Rains and Lightning Kill Six in Northwestern Pakistan
…………….
At least six people were killed and five others injured as heavy rains and lightning struck Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province this week, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The fatalities, which include three men, one woman, and two children, occurred in the districts of Mansehra, Buner, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Malakand, and Kohistan.
Seven homes were reported damaged due to strong winds, flash floods, and continuous rainfall since June 20. The injured include three men and two women, the PDMA stated on Sunday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecast pre-monsoon rains in KP, Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan between June 20 and 23.
The PDMA said it had advised district authorities to stay on alert and implement precautionary measures. Pakistan has experienced increasingly unpredictable weather in recent years, including extreme rainfall and heatwaves, which scientists attribute to climate change.
