Karachi mob slays member of Ahmadi minority

A mob attacked a place of worship belonging to Pakistan’s Ahmadi minority community in Karachi on Friday, resulting in the death of at least one man, Arab News reported.

Amir Mahmood, a spokesperson for the Ahmadi community, reported that a group of 100 to 200 people assaulted a 47-year-old car workshop owner, beating him to death with bricks and sticks. The mob continued to surround the building, trapping approximately 30 people inside.

Karachi’s Saddar neighborhood superintendent of police, Mohammad Safdar, confirmed the fatality and told Reuters that police were working to disperse the crowd.

Ahmadis are a minority group regarded as heretical by some orthodox Muslims. Pakistani law prohibits them from identifying as Muslims or using Islamic symbols, and they frequently face violence, discrimination, and obstacles that prevent them from voting in general elections.

It should be mentioned that the precinct Islam delivered and exemplified by the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) does not allow for violence against minority and ethnic groups, promoting peaceful co-existence and respect for shared human values.
