French Man Leaves 90 Crore Rupees in Property to Small Village
In a remarkable act of generosity, a 91-year-old French man has bequeathed a substantial sum of 10 million euros (approximately 90 crore rupees) to a small village in France, which shares a name similar to his own, The Inquilab reported citing The Guardian.
Roger Thiberville passed away in August 2024. His will, revealed in January, disclosed that he had left his entire estate to the village of Thiberville.
Roger Thiberville, a meteorologist by profession, lived alone in Paris. The village named after him has a population of around 1,700 residents. The village mayor and its inhabitants are astonished by the windfall, as this amount exceeds the municipality’s annual budget by five times.
International news agencies report that the late Roger Thiberville chose to donate this significant sum to the village simply because its name resembles his last name. The extraordinary gift will enable the village administration to undertake various projects, including the renovation of schools and hospitals, as well as the construction of new roads and parks.
