Politicians call on German company BASF to quit Xinjiang over ‘gross abuses’ of Uyghurs
A group of politicians from around the world has accused BASF of being involved in gross abuses of Uyghurs in Xinjiang, the Guardian reported.
They urged the company to withdraw from the Chinese province following a joint investigation by Der Spiegel and ZDF. The investigation revealed that BASF’s Chinese partner company, Xinjiang Markor Chemical Industry, accompanied Chinese state officials on intrusive home visits to Uyghur households.
The group of politicians, consisting of more than 30 members, emphasized the need for BASF to prioritize the wellbeing of those suffering under oppressive policies in Xinjiang.
