Humanitarian Crisis Deepens as Israeli Blockade Intensifies in Gaza

Israeli forces have blocked food and water supplies to the Indonesia Hospital in northern Gaza, pressuring doctors to leave their patients amidst an escalating humanitarian crisis, Arab News reported yesterday.

The hospital, funded by Jakarta’s Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), is currently sheltering patients from the destroyed Kamal Adwan hospital. Despite dire conditions, medical staff remain steadfast in their commitment to care for the vulnerable, even as the facility struggles without electricity and essential supplies due to heavy damage from Israeli attacks.

MER-C officials are urgently calling for international intervention to halt ongoing assaults on medical facilities and alleviate the severe crisis in Gaza, where over 45,000 Palestinians have died since October 7, 2023.

Over the last six months, Israel has faced global criticism for restricting humanitarian aid to Gaza. The blockade has exacerbated famine-like conditions, with widespread malnutrition and starvation reported. The United Nations has been thwarted in its aid efforts, and only 6% of planned aid missions were permitted in October 2024. As calls for a ceasefire intensify, allegations against Israel of collective punishment and genocide remain urgent and unresolved.
