Greece is on high alert as a wildfire on Mount Pangaion rages for the fifth consecutive day, prompting the issuance of a very high risk of fire (category 4) across several regions, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The fire has already consumed 12,000 stremmas (1,200 hectares) of low vegetation, with two major fronts actively burning.
Currently, 280 firefighters and 25 on-foot teams are battling the blaze, supported by four planes, four helicopters, and 46 vehicles. The Civil Protection and Climate Change Ministry has warned residents in Attica, Central Greece, Peloponnese, Eastern Macedonia, and Thrace to exercise extreme caution and adhere to government safety instructions.
Authorities remain vigilant as the situation evolves, emphasizing the importance of protecting both lives and forests from the devastating impact of wildfires. The community is urged to stay informed and prepared as firefighting efforts continue.
