Greek Coastguards Rescue 42 Migrants off Crete, Search for 3 Missing

On Thursday, the Greek coastguard reported that they had rescued 42 migrants off the island of Crete. The coastguard was also searching for three individuals believed to be missing after their boat sent a distress signal while at sea, the Reuters reported yesterday.

A coastguard official, speaking anonymously, stated that the 42 migrants were rescued by commercial vessels and a Greek navy helicopter approximately 27 nautical miles southwest of Crete.

The official did not provide details about what happened to the migrants’ boat, but confirmed that a search and rescue operation was ongoing to locate the three missing individuals.
