Pope urges world to learn from history as threat of nuclear war rises
Pope Francis urged the world on Sunday to learn from history at a time when the danger of nuclear war over the conflict in Ukraine is emerging, and called for choosing the path of peace.
“We cannot forget the danger of nuclear war that threatened the world at that time,” the Pope said in his Sunday homily in St. Peter’s Square, referring to the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s.
The pontiff added, “Why don’t we learn from history? Even at that time there were major conflicts and tensions, but the path to peace was chosen.”
Warnings continue that humanity faces the danger of an “end of the world”, in the event of a nuclear war, which has drawn widespread criticism from all over the world because of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
