Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) dies

Today, Wednesday, the head of the Nigerian National Oil Corporation, Melle Kyari, announced the death of the Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Muhammad Barkindo.

Kyari wrote on Twitter this morning: “We have lost the respected Dr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at around 11 pm yesterday, the fifth of July.”

He added, “There is no doubt that this is a great loss for his family, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, our country Nigeria, OPEC and the global energy community.”

In the past few months, the deceased figure had visited the holy shrines in Iraq, and during his visitation ceremony at the the Shrine of the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, he said: “Whenever I visit the shrine of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, I feel that I am born again.”
