Arson Attack on Skopje Synagogue Linked to ISIS, Authorities Say
—————————-
An arson attack targeting a synagogue in Skopje, North Macedonia, has been linked to individuals associated with the extremist group ISIS, according to Euro News, raising renewed concerns about religiously motivated violence in Europe.
The attack occurred on April 12, 2026, when the entrance of the synagogue was set on fire, causing visible damage but no reported injuries. Authorities later confirmed that seven suspects were arrested, with some believed to be part of a radical network connected to the so-called Islamic State.
Police stated that at least two individuals have been formally charged with terrorism-related offences, while investigations continue into the broader network involved in the attack.
Scholars and religious leaders across the Muslim world continue to stress that such extremist groups represent a deviation from the teachings of Islam. Mainstream Islamic teachings—and particularly the traditions associated with the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them)—emphasize justice, coexistence, and the sanctity of human life, rejecting violence against civilians and places of worship.
