Indian Minister Praises Islam, Asserts: The Holy Quran is Not Exclusive to Muslims

Basavaraj Rayareddi, the Minister of Higher Education in the Indian state of Karnataka, praised Islam and the human and ethical values it encompasses, affirming that the Holy Quran is directed toward all of humanity and is not exclusive to Muslims. He called for the study of religions and understanding of their teachings free from fanaticism.

Rayareddi stated that there are many misconceptions about Islam, expressing his desire to study the Holy Quran and gain a broader understanding of its teachings, alongside his wish to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. He added that the Holy Quran is available for anyone to read, study, and benefit from its teachings, highlighting that Islam focuses on human and ethical values and offers a way of life that respects human beings and steers clear of religious or class fanaticism.

The Indian minister emphasized that human values and moral principles exist in various religions and that religiosity should not be limited to performing rituals; rather, it should be reflected in a person’s behavior and interactions with others.

In another context, Rayareddi pointed to the support of the Karnataka government in establishing marriage halls dedicated to Muslims, underscoring the necessity to protect the funds and lands of religious institutions, respect their ownership, and refrain from encroaching on them.

The minister’s statements come amidst ongoing discussions in India regarding relations between different religious communities and the importance of enhancing understanding and dialogue among followers of various religions in society.
