Council of Europe Urges Denmark to Increase Muslim Representation in Key Sectors
The Council of Europe has recommended that Denmark enhance the employment of Muslims in academic institutions and law enforcement agencies, Middle East Monitor reported yesterday.
This call follows a report by Anadolu Agency, emphasizing the need for a national action plan to combat racism and promote diversity within these professions.
The organization advocates for a greater representation of individuals from Muslim and minority backgrounds among law enforcement officers and teachers. It also highlights the importance of implementing measures to prevent anti-Muslim racism and discrimination.
This recommendation comes two years after the previous Danish government launched an action plan against racism, which received parliamentary support. Recent reports have underscored the difficulties faced by Muslims in Denmark, with the European Islamophobia Report 2022 identifying the country as one of the most challenging for Muslims, alongside France and Austria.
Additionally, a 2018 report from the Danish National Police indicated that over half of the 112 recorded religiously motivated hate crimes were aimed at Muslims, underscoring the urgent need for effective measures to address these issues.
