Flooding in Australia May Cut Off Communities for Weeks, Authorities Warn

Authorities have reported that severe flooding caused by heavy rains could isolate communities in Queensland and New South Wales (NSW) for weeks, Anadolu Agency reported. Over the past 24 hours, Currarong, a small coastal village in New South Wales, received an astonishing 210 millimeters (8.26 inches) of rain, according to local broadcaster SBS News.

While rainfall is expected to decrease, officials have cautioned residents in western New South Wales about the possibility of prolonged isolation.

In response, authorities have deployed helicopters, high-clearance vehicles, and volunteers to assist with rescues and resupply efforts for those cut off. Residents are advised to remain vigilant. Another weather system is anticipated on Wednesday, likely bringing additional significant rainfall, especially to the northeastern region and northern Mid North Coast. Meanwhile, search efforts continue for an elderly man swept away by floodwaters that isolated 22 campers on the Mid-North Coast. Additionally, dozens of residents in outback Queensland were evacuated to safety as floodwaters engulfed their towns and properties.
