Three Women on Trial in Paris Over Alleged Ties to ISIS
………..

Three French women went on trial in Paris on Monday before a special criminal court on charges of belonging to the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) and forming a terrorist network, following their return from Syria where they spent several years in areas controlled by the group.

Among them is 34-year-old Jennifer Clain, niece of Jean-Michel and Fabien Clain, who voiced ISIS’s claim of responsibility for the November 13, 2015 Paris attacks that killed 130 people. Both men were later killed in Syria. Also standing trial is Christine Allan, 67, Jennifer’s mother-in-law, who converted to Islam and lived in Raqqa with her family, and Mayaline Douart, another relative by marriage.

Court documents state the women traveled to Syria in 2014 as part of a long radicalization process. They were expelled from Turkey in September 2019 along with nine children aged between three and 13. The defendants face sentences of up to 30 years in prison, with proceedings scheduled to run until September 26.
