Two car bomb explosions rock Somalia’s capital Mogadishu

Two car bomb explosions at the education ministry in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu killed at least 100 people and injured 300 others on Saturday October 29th, police and the state news agency said.

It was not known who was behind the blasts but the extremist group al-Shabaab frequently carries out bombings and gun attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere.

The first explosion hit the ministry then the second blast occurred as ambulances arrived and people gathered to help the victims, police captain Nur Farah said.

Al-Qaeda-allied al-Shabaab, which has been fighting in Somalia for more than a decade, is seeking to topple the central government and establish its own rule.
