Burundi Red Cross Assists Thousands Fleeing DRC Conflict

The Burundi Red Cross has established a crucial humanitarian service point at Rugombo Stadium, just kilometers from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border, to support nearly 40,000 refugees escaping ongoing conflict, Reliefweb.com reported. Among these refugees are approximately 18,000 children.
A dedicated team of 500 volunteers is providing essential services, including first aid for those arriving after traumatic journeys, mental health support, and sanitation facilities such as showers and latrines. The Red Cross is also distributing hygiene products, mosquito nets, bedding, clean drinking water, and food.
To ensure safety, Red Cross ambulances are on standby, having evacuated over 120 individuals needing further medical care. Special teams are working to reunite separated children with their families. Additionally, swimmers are stationed at the Rusizi River crossing to prevent drownings as displaced individuals attempt to reach safety. Expert spokespeople are available in Burundi, the DRC, and Geneva for further information.
