Al Qaeda Deadly Attack in Burkina Faso Claims Over 100 Lives

At least 100 villagers and soldiers were killed in a weekend assault by Al Qaeda-linked terrorists in Barsalogho, Burkina Faso, marking one of the deadliest attacks this year, TRTWorld reported yesterday.

The violence erupted as villagers were assisting security forces in digging trenches to protect local outposts. Wassim Nasr, a Sahel specialist, confirmed that fighters from the JNIM group invaded the area, opening fire on the civilians.

Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it gained “total control” over a militia position in the strategic town of Kaya. Videos analyzed showed bodies piled beside trenches, although the Associated Press could not independently verify the casualty count.

Burkina Faso’s security minister, Mahamadou Sana, condemned the “barbarity” and assured that the government was responding with ground and air support. With about half the country outside government control, ongoing terror attacks have killed thousands and displaced over two million people, exacerbating one of the world’s most neglected crises.
