World Health Organization: Number of new cases of coronavirus has decreased in China

World Health Organization confirmed at a press conference that the decrease in the number of new cases of coronavirus in China is partly due to a change in the criteria for diagnosis of the disease at the center of the outbreak of the virus.

“We are concerned about the increase in cases in Shandong Province and we are looking for more information,” said Tedros Adhanom, WHO Director-General.

Adhanom reported 8 deaths from the emerging coronavirus, outside of China.

The UN official expressed the organization’s concern about the spread of the virus in Iran and South Korea, noting that 6 special delegates were appointed to advise countries on coronavirus.

Adhanom also stated that the organization will monitor the needs of Lebanon and Iran to counter the spread of the virus, and provide them with technical support.

The organization warned that there is an opportunity to contain the wider international spread of the coronavirus, and that countries must act quickly if they want to control it.

The virus has infected more than 75,000 people in China, and 1,100 elsewhere in the world.

Many countries prevented entry to travelers from China, while many airlines suspended flights to the country.
