The Health and Environment Committee in the Iraqi parliament announced, on Saturday, that there is a significant increase in newly discovered cancer cases in the southern provinces as a result of the remnants of war.
A member of the committee, Faleh Al-Ziyadi, said in a statement that there is a significant increase in the detected cancerous cases, especially in southern Iraq, indicating that the problems facing the environmental and health reality in Iraq are the remnants of wars, whether they are traditional or unconventional.
Al-Ziyadi added that the radioactive warfare is considered one of the most important challenges facing the country.
A member of the Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee, Al-Hasnawi, had revealed, in a previous statement, parliamentary moves to file a lawsuit against the United States of America, stating that America had caused thousands of Iraqis to develop cancer.
