Millions worldwide commemorate Ashura

Shia Muslims around the world held mourning processions and ceremonies on Tuesday to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.

 

The holy city of Karbala was the scene of mourning processions where millions of pilgrims from inside Iraq and abroad marked the occasion amid strict security measures.

In Iran, devoted people mourned the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his faithful companions in the Battle of Karbala.  

In Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, Muslims also marked the anniversary of Ashura, despite the terrorist attacks that targeted the ceremonies.

Followers of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, in Europe, America, and other parts of the world also marked the sorrowful occasion of Ashura.
